The State of Ohio is determined to find ways to provide adequate health insurance for all its citizens. Currently, bucking a U.S. trend, only 10% of Ohioans are uninsured. Several state health initiatives target health insurance for children, thus helping Ohio families meet the financial trials of raising children today.
Children who obtain basic preventive health care from conception onward grow up healthier, stronger, and more productive. Their performance is improved, helping them advance farther in school because they feel better. By providing for the state’s youngest citizens, Ohio is investing in its own future.

Ohio Healthcare Programs for Children
The SCHIP or State Children’s Health Insurance Program is an effort by the state of Ohio to provide health insurance coverage to the uninsured children of working families. Offered through the Office of Ohio Health Plans, the program offers affordable healthcare to all children whose parents earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but who can’t afford private insurance. To be eligible, the child must be under the age of 19. Uninsured children whose parents are not working may be eligible for Ohio’s Healthy Start program.
